Single malt comes from one distillery and one grain - malted barley. A blend marries whiskies from several distilleries into one consistent house style. Neither is better - they are built for different moments.
Start with a blend
Blends are made to be consistent and approachable, which is exactly what you want in a first bottle or a busy drinks cabinet. They mix beautifully and never sulk over ice.
Read the label, not the price tag
Age statements tell you the YOUNGEST whisky in the bottle, not the best. Colour tells you even less. Trust your palate: sweet, smoky or spicy is a better compass than a number.
“The best whisky is the one you actually open.”
